//Director of the Phuket Highways Office Samak Luedwonghad met Phuket Governor Maitree Inthusut to give him a report on the tunnel construction project. The Chalong intersection area faces traffic congestion, especially during rush hours, because a great number of cars head to Kata and Karon beaches and Laem Phrom Thep, which are major tourist attractions. The first public hearing on the project is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. on November 1. Stakeholders will be offered alternatives on a suitable form of construction. After the form of construction is selected, it will take about one year to build the tunnel. It is expected that the project will be carried out in the 2016 fiscal year. Concerning the progress of the construction of the tunnel at the Dara Samut intersection, Mr. Samak said the 835-million-baht project has been 50 percent completed now.
